BV/JB Blocks – Offshore Seychelles

About the Permits

Offshore Seychelles represents one of the largest underexplored petroleum provinces in the western Indian Ocean, with an Exclusive Economic Zone covering approximately 1.4 million km². Modern tectonic and geophysical studies indicate that Seychelles shares the same rift-drift petroleum systems responsible for major hydrocarbon discoveries along the East African Margin and Mozambique Channel. PetroQuest Seychelles LLC has secured a majority equity interest in the Beau Vallon (BV) and Junon Bank (JB) offshore blocks, which together are estimated to contain approximately 8 billion barrels of oil potential.

Exploration activity in Seychelles dates back to the late 1970s, when companies including Amoco, Enterprise Oil, and Sterling Energy conducted seismic surveys and drilled exploration wells that confirmed hydrocarbon shows and mature source rocks. More recent 2D and 3D seismic programs have identified large structural and stratigraphic closures with significant untested upside. Key prospects include the Beau Vallon Prospect, a fault-bounded horst structure associated with proven Karoo oil shows and active migration pathways from nearby mature oil kitchens and the Junon South Prospect, a large fault-bounded Jurassic-age tilted fault block with mapped closure exceeding 300 km². Both prospects target high-quality Triassic–Jurassic sandstone reservoirs and can be drilled cost-effectively in shallow water using standard jack-up rigs, positioning Seychelles as a highly attractive frontier exploration opportunity.
